Ms. Sallie Ann Barnes Johnson was born June 29, 1947 in Fairfield, Texas to the parentage of
David and Gladys Barnes. She is the youngest of six children. Sallie was affectionately known as
“Nana” by her grandchildren.
She grew up in Ennis, Texas where she received her education at George Washington Carver and
was a part of the Class of 1965. After graduating from George Washington Carver, she began
working at Texas Instruments and became the Financial Secretary of Carver Alumni for fifteen
years. Later she began working for Blue Cross Blue Shield and Lincoln Insurance Company as a
Claim Adjustor for several years until her retirement.
Sallie accepted Christ at an early age at Zion Chapel Baptist Church. Later in her adult years she
reunited with Christ at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church where she was a dedicated
member.
On November 7, 2020, Sallie Ann moved all of her years of labor to her true reward in Heaven
with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She is proceeded in death by her parents: David Barnes Sr., and Gladys Barnes.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories; her daughter: Denice (Gregory) Johnson of
Waxahachie, Texas two grandchildren: J’Lon Jones of Plano, Texas and Zion Johnson of
Waxahachie, Texas two brothers David (Dorothy) Barnes, Jr. of Ferris, Texas, and Willie
Barnes of Dallas, Texas three sisters Edna Sheppard of Fort Worth, Texas, Arnita (Bobby)
ohnson of Memphis, Tennessee, and Minnie Barnes of Ennis, Texas. And a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
