Nora Johnson Obituary

Obituary
Nora Jean White Johnson, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away on April 29, 2026. Born on
August 17, 1962 in Louisiana to Joe B. White, Sr. and Georgia Lou George White and raised in Oak
Cliff (Dallas), Texas, Nora lived life in her own way—steady, independent, and true to herself.
She graduated from Roosevelt High School, Class of 1980, where she enjoyed playing soccer. She later
earned her associate’s degree in psychology from the University of Arkansas Cossatot Community
College, where she also served as director of the university’s daycare across two campuses. Nora
worked as an account representative at Quebecor Printing and Proline Printing and later became the first
African American librarian at the Ashdown Public Library, taking pride in her work and service.
Nora enjoyed being around family, sharing laughs, and spending time together. She had a playful spirit
and loved joking with her siblings. She also loved singing in the choir—whether she hit every note or not,
she sang with joy, and as long as it was for Jesus, that was enough.
As the daughter of a preacher, her faith was central to her life. She united with St. Rest Missionary Baptist
Church in Ashdown, where she faithfully served as Vice President of the Women’s Auxiliary for the Little
River District and led the Youth Department, hosting weekly Bible study. She also stepped forward to
minister during a time when the church was without a pastor. Nora was a prayer warrior who encouraged
others through prayer. Her favorite scripture was Matthew 6:33.
A special joy in Nora’s life was marrying her husband, Cornelius Johnson, in 2002. After a few proposals,
she finally said “yes,” and together they built a life that was blessed with their daughter, Dimiya Johnson,
whom she loved deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Joe White, Sr. and First Lady Georgia White; her
husband, Cornelius Johnson; and her brother-in-law, Kirk Douglas.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Dimiya Johnson of Ashdown, AR; her sister, Priscilla
Douglas of Lancaster, TX; her brother, Joe White Jr. (Nannette) of DeSoto, TX; her brother, Patron
Thomas (Constance) of Red Oak, TX; her youngest sister, Chekelah Betts (Jermaine) of Mansfield, TX;
her mother-in-law, Mittie Royal of Ashdown, AR; her Prayer Partner, Channal Anderson of Waxahachie,
TX; along with eight nieces, four nephews, one great-niece, two great-nephews, four aunts, a host of
cousins, and extended family and friends.
Nora White Johnson will be remembered for her faith, her individuality, and the moments she shared with
those who knew and loved her.
