The book of life and death of Mr. Jeffie Lee Givens, Jr.
Jeffie Lee Givens, Jr. was born January 10, 1957, in Athens, Tx. to the late Mr. Jeffie Lee
Givens, Sr. and Mrs. Willie Esther Baxter Givens. Grandparents: Eddie and Katie Givens,
Henry and Histerine Baxter. He is preceded in death by his First Wife Mattie Bee Givens,
Second Wife Katrina Givens his two sister Rosemary Marie Givens, Petrick Givens two
brothers Joe Nathan Givens and Titus Givens. two nieces Shagayla Brookins and Nakisha
Cumby two great nephews J’vone Brookins, Phillip Brookins.
Jeffie Givens better known as “Bo-Dean.” He received his formal education at Athens Sr. High
in Athens, TX. Jeffie accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age at Mt. Moriah Baptist
Church Sandflat Community, where he served in the choir until his health failed. Jeffie passed
away on October 8, 2021, at his residence due to a short-term illness. Through Jeffie sickness
he never had a complaint. When asked how he was doing he would always so “Fairly Well”.
Lora mentioned that she had prayed to God to send her a husband and to make sure that the
man he would send her would call her by her name and when Jeff called her, she knew he was
the one. On September 17, 2016, Jeffie took Lora Ann for his wife and help mate and her hand
in marriage, a marriage of five long beautiful years.
He was employed by Norman Pottery after its closing, he began working at Curtis Mathis after
their closing he moved to Dallas Texas taking a job for the City of Dallas retiring after twenty
years of service. He then moved back to Athens, Texas finishing out his working career at
Mclemore at TVCC until his health failed. After a tired day of work his hobby was coming
home and working in his yard and his garden.
Jeffie Lee Givens, Jr. known as Bo-Dean departed this life on October 8, 2021. Leaving to
cherish his most precious memories: his loving wife of six years Lora Ann Tatum Givens of
Athens, Texas: Two daughters: Debra (Kirk) Brown and Destiny L. Tatum (Patrick) Skiles both
of Athens, Texas; One son: Bennie Warren Jr. of Athens, Texas; Four grandchildren: Candace
Brown, Logan Paris, Chelsea Brown, and Jacobi Warren; six great grandsons; Two brothers:
James Givens Sr. of Athens, Texas; Kevine (Debra) of Larue, Texas; Five sisters: Willie
Florence (Felix) Brookins of Tyler, Texas: Vickie (Leslie) Cumby of Larue, Texas; Sylvia
(Kenneth) Keys, Shelia Houston and Regina Whitemon all of Athens, Texas; a host of aunties,
nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
