The book of life and death of Mr. Jeffie Lee Givens Sr. Mr. Jeffie Givens Sr. was born March 14, 1931 in Athens, Texas to the late Mr. Eddie Givens Sr and Kattie Beatrice Givens. He is preceded in death by his wife Willie Ester Givens; son, Joe Nathan Givens; two granddaughters, Nakesha Lacole Cumby and Shagayla Brookins; two great grand boys, J’Vonne and Phillip Brookings; three brother, Harvester Givens, Robert Earl Givens, and Eddie James Jr.; and one sister, Margie Lindsey.
Jeffie Givens better know as “Papa, Bid Daddy, Poppy, Uncle Jeff, but all siblings he was better known as Daddy”. He was faithful member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Sandflat Community where he served on the Deacon board until his health failed. Jeff passed away on September 29, 2020 at UT Health of pneumonia and kidney failure. Although even when his health failed him, he still when was asked how are you doing he would always say, “I’m kicking but not high”. Jeffie attended Eureka School until the 11th grand. Jeff then went to serve in the army from February 1952 to February 1954. After returning from the service he married Willie Baxter for 46 years until her death. He worked many jobs but retired from Teas Clay Brick of Malakoff Texas after 39 years.
Jeffie leaves to cherish his most precious memories: Willie Brookins(Felix) of Tyler, Texas, Jeffie Givens Jr.(Lora), Sylvia Keys(Kenneth), James Givens Sr., Shelia Houston(Kenneth), and Regina Whitemon all of Athens, Texas; Kevine Givens(Debra) and Vickie Cumby(Leslie) both of LaRue, Texas; three surviving sisters, Katie Shepard, Mary Brown of Athens, Texas, and willie Jackson of Martins Mill, Texas. Daddy lived through five generations counting himself first, then his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.
