JL Demmings (Humpty) was born on January 21, 1940 in Freestone County to the parents of Roy and Ethelene Demmings.
JL received his education from Dunbar High School. He accepted Christ at an early age, and he was a faithful member of God’s Kingdom United Methodist Church. He worked at Reliance Clay Products Company (Brick Yard) for many years and later went on to work at Overhead doors in Dallas where he later retired.
JL was known as “Champ” by the love of his life (Lozell Smith/ Baby Sister), and Humpty to many family and friends. He loved working with his hands, and he could almost fix anything he put his hands on. He didn’t mind helping anyone. He was also known as PawPaw to his grandchildren and he loved providing and protecting them.
JL Demmings went home to his Heavenly Father July 17, 2020
JL was preceded in death by both parents Roy and Ethelene Demmings, a sister Edith Demmings two brothers Elmer Demmings and LB Demmings, a very special friend Lozell Smith, daughter Martha Kay Petty, and son Aurtris James Petty.
JL leaves to cherish his memories: son McArthur Petty of Dallas Texas, daughters Cynthia Richard and Helen Jackson of Dallas and Kelley Smith of Ferris Texas. One aunt Paulene Busby Jones, cousins Evelyn Hull, Clara Jean Hatcher and Rudolph Demmings of Dallas Texas. 19 grandkids 18 great grandkids, and a host of other relatives, and friends.
