Life Reflections
Easter Carter, a woman of deep faith, impeccable style, and a legendary rhythm, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 following a courageous journey with Alzheimer's Disease. Surrounded by the family she spent her life fostering, Easter transitioned from this life to the next, leaving behind a legacy as sweet as her renowned peach cobbler.
A Life of Resilience and Joy
Born on November 25, 1941, to Flonza and Massie Green, Easter learned the value of family early. At just eight years old, following the passing of her mother, she helped care for her four younger siblings. Despite these early responsibilities, her spirit remained vibrant. As a teenager, she found her rhythm as a member of the 1957 Jackson High School drill team, beginning a lifelong love affair with dance and music.
A Pillar of the Community
Easter was a longtime resident of Corsicana, Texas, before moving to Grand Prairie. Her work ethic was unmatched, serving for 15 years as a presser for Haggar Slacks, working in environmental services at Navarro Regional Hospital, and later at Russell Stover's. She concluded her career serving others as a dedicated house parent.
Faith and Fashion
A lifetime member and Deaconess of Wilgo Baptist Church, Easter was the heart of the congregation during its heyday. As the Mistress of Ceremony, she was known for keeping the program on schedule while being impeccably dressed from head to toe. Her generosity was as legendary as her suits; she frequently blessed others with outfits from her own closet.
Her faith was her anchor. While she loved the traditional hymns like "Amazing Grace," nothing moved her quite like the "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Though she didn't know every verse, her voice would rise with joy the moment she reached the chorus: "Glory, glory, hallelujah!"
Family and Legacy
Easter's greatest highlights were found in the company of her family, especially during their annual reunions. A seasoned traveler, she racked up many flyer miles to ensure she never missed a gathering. At home, during her haydays, she enjoyed teaching the ladies in the neighborhood how to line dance. While she had a pleasant personality, her family jokingly knew not to mess with her, because she didn't have a problem "going off on you," which was a testament to her strength and fiery spirit.
Survivors and Precedents
Easter is reunited in Heaven with her husband, Leonard Carter; her son, Lonnie Carter; her sister, Freda Jones; and her parents.
Her memory will be cherished by her children: Adolphus Green (Myrtle), Jacqueline Carter, Larry Carter, and stepson Michael Jackson. She is also survived by her siblings, Flonza Green Jr., Dr. Evelyn Daniels, and Minnie Green; her grandchildren, LaSherra Green (Brandon), Londeya Carter, and Kimberly Green; and her greatgrandchildren, Maxine and Caden Green.
