Dorothy Munson Obituary

Dorothy Louise Munson was born in Ennis, TX on January 19, 1942 to Charlie and LeeBertha Myers (predeceased). Dorothy attended Ennis, TX Schools, graduating from G.W. Carver, Class of 1960. She married Robert Joe Munson (predeceased) on January 11, 1957. From that union, her only biological child, Kirk Munson was born on October 4, 1957. She relocated to St. Paul, MN in 1969 and worked at Control Data from 1970-1990. She moved back to Ennis, TX to be with family from 1990-1995. She relocated again to Minnesota in 1995 to become the owner of her beloved record shop, East Side Jams. She was known as “Mom” to all customers who patronized. Due to her mother’s failing health, she moved back to Ennis, TX in 2014 where she lived until moving to her forever home in heaven. She accepted Christ as a young child and was a devoted and proud member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was a member of the Purple Red Hatters Society from 2006-2014 and a decorated bowler in her 30s and 40s.

Dorothy played a significant role in raising her beloved niece Yolanda “Tweety’ Coleman who preceded her in death in 2008. She also lovingly accepted and raised her stepson Dusty Horton. Being a grandmother was Dorothy’s ultimate joy in life, and she regularly expressed that joy and love by playing a major role in raising her grandchildren. She raised and loved her granddaughter LaKisha Munson, like a daughter. Although having one child, Dorothy was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her son, Kirk (Sharon) Munson, stepson Dusty (Joy) Horton, Grandchildren LaKisha (Terry Kelley) Munson, Kirk Jr. (Joy) Munson, Valerie Munson, Robert (Felicia) Munson, Kristina Kurtti, Kaylee Munson, Melissa Kurtti, Billie Joe Kurtti, Lenell (Terrell) Binford, Toshawnda (Bruce) Robinson, LeDarian Horton. Her grandson Michael Haddock preceded her in death in 2018. Great Grandchildren: Shayla, Kaveon, Brooklynn, Talaiya, Daevontae, Baby D, Olivia, Jayveon, Bryson, Cedric, Bella, Christopher, Bailey, Larissa, Amajhae, Amaya, Amani, DeLani, Arielle, and Quintus. Great Great Grandchildren: Dontae Jr. Noah, Aliyah, Carter and Addison.

She is also survived by her loving siblings whom she had a very close bond with. Sherl (Charles) Sallie, Charles-Sugaboy (Mary) Myers, Willie-Peaches (Julie) Myers, Alfred (Tameka) Myers, Juanita Coleman, Michael Ray Myers, Herman Myers. Sisters: Effie McGraw, Charlene Brown, Georgia Darden and Vicki Maxwell preceded her in death. She is immensely loved by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and bonus granddaughters.
